What is Job-Embedded Learning?
At New Measure, job-embedded learning simply means that the professional development in a community of practice focuses on all personnel becoming learners themselves while they work. The job of leadership in a community of practice is to support the job-embedded learning of personnel within the organization. Michael Fullan (2001, pg. 252) reminds us of a stark truth: If most schools and districts are not good learning organizations...this means they are not good employers. They are especially not good employers for teachers who want to make a difference.
The cornerstone of our work centers upon helping school leaders expand their workshop learning models into workplace learning processes.
What are some tools and methods of Job-embedded Learning?
At New Measure, we believe that the best source of professional learning is the classroom and the school itself. We support schools who want to integrate the methods and processes into their daily work and learning by designing web tools to support the following:
Learning Plans, Logs, Portfolios, Portals
Examination of Student Work and Feedback
Action Research
Reciprocity Protocols and Norms
Networked Study Groups
Integration of Coaching/Mentoring
